Environmental Monitoring

Environmental monitoring is a crucial component of several significant projects that Nunavut Environmental Consulting and its partners are actively engaged in.

 

For Agnico Eagle Mines’ Meadowbank (Baker Lake) and Meliadine (Rankin Inlet) Gold Projects, long-term and ongoing wildlife monitoring studies investigate and assess the effects of the mine on a variety of wildlife species groups including caribou, Arctic predators, waterfowl, raptors, and songbirds. In addition, we have organized and facilitate multi-year Hunter Harvest Studies in the communities of Baker Lake and Rankin Inlet and conduct caribou monitoring for mining exploration projects.

 

For various transportation projects, wildlife monitoring has included raptor nesting success, population changes of birds, amphibians, and invertebrates, and vegetation transition in compensation areas. We also monitor habitat suitability for federally endangered species on many of our projects.
