Wildlife Research and Inventory

Nunavut Environmental Consulting and its partners have been leaders in caribou research in the Arctic. Between 2008 and 2019, we coordinated and participated in a collaborative caribou collaring program involving the Government of Nunavut (Department of Environment), Agnico Eagle Mines, Areva, and Cameco, and provided input on the effects of Arctic mining roads on caribou migration.

Research results have made important contributions to our understanding of caribou population dynamics and range use in Nunavut, which guides long-term monitoring and management strategies. Other research studies have encompassed a diverse range of wildlife species including rare and endangered species, waterbirds, raptors, ungulates, predators, amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates.
